As with any new tool, it's important to practice and get familiar with your Quad Pod. They can be used with or with out the optional straps in many ways.
Shooting with out the strap. Shooting with the Shock Strap. Over the head shooting. Shooting with a cinimatic style.
Generally you will get steadier motion footage without the pod and cameras weight on the neck strap although personal preferences may vary.
The neck straps are great for longer shoots when you are filming from a steady position and for resting the camera in between shooting. The shock strap has shock adsorbing characteristics that also allow for filming when on the move. Again,
personal preferences may vary.
Sometimes you just can't get a good angle or view straight ahead and it becomes necessary to get the camera higher up or even over your head to get the shot. For instance when people are all around blocking your view during news gathering or sporting event. Here is where the quads front grips really come in handy. Here's how you do it. With one hand on the back grip and the other on the front grips, you can smoothly transition from a straight and level height to an over your head and downward shot.
Using Quad Pod with a tripod
Life would be easier and footage generally stable if we could shoot everything from a tripod. But that's not always possible or preferred. You may have a limited or bad angle. In various situation like these, it's necessary to go mobile. You need to be quick and professional. Here the Quad Pod Pro and Combo really shines. With a snap your off, steady and rolling for more creativity and better quality footage.
Using Quad Pods with a Mono-pod
From personal experience, I find that the Quad Pod Combo is best used with a mono pod but by no means is it necesary. For versatility on longer shoots and or with limited space, great footage can be had with a Quad Pod Pro on a good mono-pod. The balanced grips are now used to level and operate the video camera and or digital still camera. With this combination you have the best of all worlds.
Mobility, stability and versatility.
One of the benefits of using a quad pod is not only the mobility it provides but the quality of the footage you get wile mobile. Documentary and cinematic styles are easy with a combination of balance, proper footwork and use or non use of the shock strap. Practice with and without a strap to judge the results. Generally we have found that when moving slowly the use of the straps for stability works fine, but if you are moving quickly, it's best not to use a strap as quicker movements tend to be not as stable as using your quad as a natural extension of your upper body without the strap.
